The high-pressure cycloadditon of 1:2,3:4-di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-galactopyranos-6-ulose (3) to 1-methoxybuta-1,3-diene (1) afforded diastereoisomerically pure cycloadduct 4 whose absolute configuration was determined.
