the reactions were promoted by the heterogeneous catalysis of
Pd–Au alloy NPs. Sakurai et al. reported the high leaching-
tolerance of Pd(II) species incorporated into Au NPs,[9c] which
would enhance the environmentally compatibility of the present
catalytic systems.
In summary, versatile and practical [2+2+2] cycloadditions of
substituted alkynes were achieved with the use of supported Pd–
Au alloy catalysts. A series of alkynes participated in the present
Pd–Au-catalyzed reactions, and various modes of cycloaddition
were acceptable. The catalysis of supported Pd–Au NPs has
several important features, such as high air-tolerance and
reusability, which should be advantageous for the practical
synthesis of polysubstituted arenes. Further applications of
supported Pd–Au alloy catalysts in other synthetic reactions as
well as a theoretical study on the detailed reaction mechanism are
currently underway in our laboratory.
