reaction is reversible for parent 1 and 2. Derivatives of 1 and 2
carrying fluoride as a leaving group in the meta position form
the corresponding m-hydroxy derivatives cleanly and efficiently,
constituting a hitherto unexplored, efficient aromatic photosub-
stitution reaction.
