  • Uses Samarium(III) nitrate hydrate is used as a catalyst in von Pechmann condensation for the preparation of coumarins. Further, it finds use in optical glasses, structural ceramics, catalysts, electrical components and photo-optical material. It is also used as a laboratory reagent. In addition to this, it is used in NMR spectroscopy for spectral resolution and is used for doping purposes. Samarium(III) nitrate hexahydrate is a Lewis acid catalyst that is used in the synthesis of a variety of materials for applications such as:synthesis of nitrate precursor solution which can be used as a nanocatalyst in the solid oxide regenerative fuel cells.for the formation of coumarin derivative by von Pechmann condensation of phenol with ethyl acetoacetate in the presence of samarium complex as catalyst.for the preparation of samarium doped ceria, which can be used in the fabrication of electrolyte for fuel cells.
