  • Uses Rhodium(III) 2,4-pentanedionate is used in catalytic reagents for organic synthesis. Rhodium(III) 2,4-pentanedionate is useful for hydrosilylation of a variety of organic substrates like alkenes, terminal or internal acetylenes, conjugated dienes, alpha, beta -unsaturated aldehydes and allylic compounds. It performs the role of a catalyst in well-known reactions such as transformation processes including hydrogenation, ethanol steam reforming, CO oxidation, and NOx reduction. Rhodium acetylacetonate, as the organic solvent-soluble source of rhodium metal ions, can be used to prepare monodisperse size/shape controlled Rh nanocrystals. Rh nanocrystal monolayers have been reported to show high activity for hydrogenation of vinylcyclohexene to selectively produce ethylcyclohexene. The size/shape controlled nanocrystals find a variety of applications in oil refining processes, chemical synthesis and fuel cell technology. Very effective catalyst for the hydrogenation of carboxylic acids when combined with group 6 or group 7 metal carbonyls.

Diastereoselective synthesis of hexahydropyrrolo [2, 1-b]oxazoles by a rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation/silica-promoted deformylation sequence

10.1002/anie.200802550

Maxym Vasylyev and Howard Alper presents a novel method for the synthesis of hexahydropyrrolo[2,1-b]oxazoles through a unique hydroformylation–deformylation pathway. [Rh(CO)2(acac)] (Rhodium Acetylacetonate) is the rhodium catalyst used in the hydroformylation step. It is a common precursor for rhodium complexes and is used to generate the active rhodium species that facilitates the addition of carbon monoxide and hydrogen to the allylic double bond in the oxazolidine. The study highlights the importance of silica gel in promoting the cyclization process and provides insights into the reaction mechanism through isotope labeling experiments. This work contributes to the field of asymmetric synthesis by offering a new route to complex nitrogen-containing heterocycles, which are valuable in the synthesis of natural products and pharmaceuticals.
