  • Chemical Composition and Properties Aluminum sulfate exists in two forms - anhydrous aluminum sulfate, which is a white crystalline solid, and the hydrated form Al2(SO4)3路18H2O. Both forms are soluble in water, noncombustible, and nontoxic. It is also known by various names such as alum, aluminum trisulfate, and sulfuric acid, aluminum salt.
  • Uses Aluminum sulfate finds extensive use across different industries. It is utilized in sewage treatment, water purification, papermaking, fireproofing, and waterproofing cloth, deodorizing and de-colorizing petroleum, and leather tanning. Additionally, it is employed in antiperspirants, agricultural pesticides, and the manufacturing of aluminum salts.
  • Medical and Pharmaceutical Uses Solutions containing 5-10% aluminum sulfate are used as local applications to ulcers and to stop foul discharges from mucous surfaces. Furthermore, it is used in the preparation of aluminum acetate ear drops.
  • Role in Shotcrete Acceleration Aluminum sulfate (AS) serves as a commonly used accelerator in shotcrete to shorten the setting and hardening times. It contributes to the production of calcium sulfoaluminate (ettringite), which enhances early strength and forms an interlocking network microstructure. AS may exhibit synergistic effects with cementitious materials, promoting the absorption of Al3+ by C鈥揝鈥揌 during the early stages of hydration.
  • Alkali-Free Accelerator in Sprayed Concrete Aluminum sulfate (AS) is a key component of alkali-free accelerators used in sprayed concrete. Research indicates that AS facilitates the formation and growth of AFt (ettringite) nanocrystals, promoting the setting process and accelerating strength development in concrete. The efficacy of the alkali-free accelerator is largely determined by the reaction between AS and cement.
