  • Production and History HPMC production began in the US in the late 1940s. It is a chemical derivative of cellulose, obtained through reactions with chloromethane and propylene oxide.
  • Properties HPMC is a white/creamy-white, odorless, tasteless, fibrous/granular, and nontoxic powder. It is partly O-methylated and O-(2-hydroxypropylated) cellulose. Its solubility properties, thermo-plasticity, and wide range of viscosity grades make it versatile for various applications.
  • Applications HPMC has diverse applications in industries such as food, medicine, agriculture, construction, chemicals, and textiles. It serves as a tackifier, stabilizer, emulsifier, solubilizer, binder, film-forming/coating agent, dispersant, modified-release agent, and shell material.
