Studies suggest that its chlorination behavior is influenced by supramolecular interactions within the zeolite's linear channels, where preferential attack occurs at the proximal end of the adsorbed molecule, closest to the external surface. The presence of compensating cations and the redistribution of supramolecular isomeric structures further modulate reaction selectivity, particularly favoring terminal functionalization. This enhanced selectivity, compared to homogeneous solutions, highlights its utility in synthesizing terminally functionalized alkanes under controlled conditions.
