The research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of cadmium-containing dinuclear double helicates derived from polydentate pyridyl-thiazolyl ligands that incorporate an N-oxide unit on the central pyridyl ring. The study reports the synthesis of two novel ligands, L1 and L2, which upon reaction with Cd(ClO4)2·6H2O, lead to the formation of double helicates. The solid-state structures of these helicates were determined using X-ray crystallography, revealing the N-oxide unit's role in partitioning the ligands into two separate binding domains. The experiments involved the synthesis of ligands L1 and L2 from 2,20:6,200-terpyridine tris-N-oxide, followed by their reaction with cadmium perchlorate hexahydrate. The products were characterized using ESI-MS and X-ray crystallography, with the latter confirming the double-stranded helical arrangement around the cadmium ions. Elemental analysis was also performed to determine the empirical formula of the synthesized complexes.
