General Description

1-(2-Chloroethyl)-1-nitroso-3-(3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl)urea, also known as BCNU, carmustine, or BiCNU, is a chemotherapeutic agent used in the treatment of various forms of cancer, including brain tumors, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma. It belongs to the class of nitrosoureas, which are alkylating agents that work by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. BCNU works by damaging the DNA of cancer cells, preventing them from dividing and replicating. It is administered intravenously or orally, and its side effects may include bone marrow suppression, nausea, and vomiting. BCNU is considered an effective and important drug in the treatment of certain types of cancer and is frequently used in combination with other chemotherapy agents.
