General Description

(R)-Phenprocoumon is a synthetic derivative of coumarin and a vitamin K antagonist that is used as an anticoagulant medication to prevent blood clots. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors in the liver, leading to a decrease in the production of prothrombin and other clotting factors. This ultimately prolongs the time it takes for blood to clot, reducing the risk of thrombosis and embolism. (R)-Phenprocoumon is commonly prescribed for conditions such as atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. It is available in oral formulations and has a long half-life, allowing for once-daily dosing. However, it requires careful monitoring of the patient's international normalized ratio (INR) to ensure the proper balance between clotting and bleeding.

A catalytic, metal-free intramolecular rearrangement of benzyl phenyl ethers using nitrosonium salt as a catalyst is described. The optimized reaction conditions enabled a catalytic and metal-free Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction with benzylic alcohols, producing water as the stoichiometric byproduct.
