1-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-2-yl)ethan-1-one is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C10H10O3. It is also known as safrole ketone and is a pale yellow liquid with a strong, sweet, and woody odor. The compound is commonly used in the production of fragrances and flavorings, as well as in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It is also a precursor in the synthesis of MDMA, a psychoactive drug. However, due to its potential for abuse, as well as its toxicity and carcinogenicity, its use is highly regulated and restricted in many countries.

Reaction of 4-(1,4-benzodioxan-2-yl)thiazol-2-amine with acid chlorides afforded N-substituted amides which further were reduced into the corresponding amines. A new method was developed of preparation of 2-acetyl-1,4-benzodioxane, the initial compound in the synthesis of thiazolylbenzodioxane and numerous derivatives of this series. The adreno- and sympatholytic as well as antihypoxic effect of the obtained biheterocyclic 1,4-benzodioxane derivatives were investigated.
