2-Hydroxy-3-allylacetophenones on Claisen condensation with EtOAc/Na gave intermediate diketone, followed by cyclization in AcOH/HCl gave 8-ally1/-1-propenylchromones, which on ozonolysis gave 8-acetaldehydes or 8-carboxaldehydes. The above aldehydes on oxidation with KMnO4 furnished corresponding 8-acetic acids and 8-carboxylic acids.
