(Chemical Equation Presented) A short and simple synthesis of chromeno[3,4-b][4,7]phenanfhroline derivatives was accomplished by three-component reactions involving an aromatic aldehyde, 6-aminoquinoline and 4-hydroxycoumarin in water, under microwave irradiation without use of any catalyst. This protocol has the advantages of short reaction time, high yields, low cost and being environmental-friendly as well as easy operation.
