Upon treatment of 2-methyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran with dichlorocarbene there are formed products of addition to the double bond and insertion at the C-H bond giving cis- and trans-7,7-dichloro-2-methyl-3-oxabicycloheptane and 2-dichloromethyl-2-methyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran.
