SYNTHESIS OF 2-SUBSTITUTED-6,7-DIHYDRO-4H-PYRIMIDOTHIENO- AND PYRIDIN-4-ONES

1-(2-(3-Thienyl)ethyl)barbituric acid (7a) and 1-(2-(2-thienyl)ethyl)barbituric acid (7b) were cyclized to novel 2-chloro-6,7-dihydro-4H-pyrimidothieno--pyridin-4-one (8a) and 2-chloro-6,7-dihydro-4H-pyrimidothienopyridin-4-one (8b), respectively.The chloro group in both 8a and 8b was displaced by different amines to give the corresponding amino compounds 9a and 9b.
