body text, p. 4176 - 4179 (2009/12/30)
Methylene-bridged bis-1,3-dicarbonyl derivatives were synthesized efficiently by Iron-catalyzed oxidative reactions of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and N,N-dimethylaniline. Blpyrazoles and substituted 1,4-dlhydropyridlne were obtained by the reactions of bis-1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with hydrazines and ammonium acetate, respectively.

supporting information; scheme or table, p. 7497 - 7500 (2009/03/12)
Iron/oxidant can do: Heteroatom-containing molecules are abundant in natural products, pharmaceuticals, and materials. It is highly desirable to synthesize these molecules and their derivatives by direct C-H functionalization. The novel title reaction provides a simple and efficient method to construct such molecules by using 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds (see scheme). (Chemical Equation Presented).
