The de Mayo sequence has been applied to an efficient synthesis of the enone 6, a key intermediate in the synthesis of taxane derivatives.The palladium-catalyzed reaction of the allyl carbonates 9 and 11 gives via retro-aldol reaction and allylation the highly functionalized seven- resp. eightmembered rings 10 and 12.
