In hydrocarbon solutions trans-Pt(CCH)2(PMe2Ph)2, (1), and W2(OBu-t)6, (2), react to give, by successive eliminations of t-BuOH, trans-Pt(CCH)(PMe2Ph)2, (3), and trans-Pt2(PMe2Ph)2, (4); compounds (3) and (4) are shown to contain dicarbido(4-) ligands on the basis of (13)C n.m.r. studies and single crystal X-ray crystallography.
