2-(N-Arylcarboxamido)-3(H)-oxonaphthopyran (I) reacts with Grignard reagents to give 1,2- and 1,4-addition products of the types 2-arylcarboxamido-2-benzoyl-1-(β-hydroxy-α-naphthyl)ethylenes (II) and 1-alkyl-2-(N-aryl-carboxamido)-1,2-dihydro-3(H)-oxonaphthopyrans (III).Their structures have been assigned by elemental analyses and spectral data (IR, PMR, mass).
