Mixed electrolyses in non-nucleophilic solvents of indenones in the presence of α-substituted styrenes lead to cyclobutanes and cyclohexenes.Such a kind of addition may be explained by the catalytic role of the anode and the intermediate reactivity of oxidized forms of indenones.
