Lead silicate, also known as lead bisilicate, is a pale yellow powder with the chemical formula PbO·0.03Al2O3 · 1.95SiO2. It is insoluble in water and has a composition of 65% PbO, 1% Al2O3, and 34% SiO2 by weight. Lead silicate is available in granular form, less than 1.68 mm (10 mesh), and ground form, with 88% passing through 44 μm (325 mesh). It was specifically developed as a low solubility source of lead in glazes, where its high viscosity and low volatility are crucial properties.
