The syntheses of complexes containing the HL ligands N,N'-di-p-tolylformamidine (TolNCHNHTol) (Tol=p-MeC6H4) and N,N'-di-p-tolyltriazene (TolNNNHTol) are described. The complexes are of the types cis-, trans- and cis-, with the HL ligands acting as monodentate ligands via the imino N atom.A N,N'-di-p-tolylformamidinato complexes, is also described. It undergoes irreversible insertion of CNTol of CS2, or reversible insertion of CO2, into one N-Pd bond. While the CS2 insertion product is an S,S-bonded dithiocarbamate-type complex, the product arising from the CO2 insertion contains a six-membered palladiacycle with the ligand O,N-bonded to the Pd atom.
