The present work requires deoxy and deoxyfluoro analogues of methyl α-D-galactopyranoside and of the methyl α-glycoside. Methyl 6-deoxy-6-fluoro-3, 4-O-isopropylidene-α-D-galactopyranoside is used to prepare the 6-deoxy-6-fluoro derivative of the dissacharide as the glycosyl acceptor in the condensation reaction.
