Phosphorane, trifluorobis(trifluoromethyl)-, also known as bis(trifluoromethyl)trifluorophosphorane, is a highly reactive and unstable organophosphorus compound with the chemical formula C2F6P. It is a colorless, volatile, and highly toxic substance that is sensitive to moisture and air. Phosphorane, trifluorobis(trifluoromethyl)- is a strong Lewis acid and a potent electrophile, making it a valuable reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the formation of phosphonium salts and the conversion of alcohols to alkyl halides. Due to its high reactivity, it is typically generated in situ and used immediately to avoid decomposition.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 1184-82-3 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,1,8 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1184-82:
(6*1)+(5*1)+(4*8)+(3*4)+(2*8)+(1*2)=73
73 % 10 = 3
So 1184-82-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Oxidation of tris(trifluoromethyl)phosphine

Mahler, Walter

, p. 352 - 354 (2007/10/05)

Oxygen reacts with tris(trifluoromethyl)phosphine by a chain reaction involving the trifluoromethyl radical and its autoxidation. With thermal quenching, tris(trifluoromethyl) phosphate and bis(trifluoromethyl)fluorophosphine oxide are formed. Under conditions of spontaneous ignition the latter compound delivers CF2, a powerful reducing agent.
