The invention is the diagnostic drug containing at least one deuterated derivative of sarcosine, as well as the diagnostic method based on the use of this diagnostic drug. The method of the invention includes performing magnetic resonance imaging and / or deuterium magnetic resonance spectroscopy after administration of the diagnostic drug in a time sufficient for the accumulation of the diagnostic drug in a target area of a subject's body. The proposed method allows to carry out a highly informative diagnostics of oncological diseases and other diseases, accompanied by a locally altered level of absorption of nutrients by cells.
