The palladated aryl units obtained via cycló palladation of methyl 2-biphenylyl sulfide or N,N-dimethyl-2-biphenylamine undergo annelation reactions with diphenylacetylene. From the reaction of the sulfur containing palladocycle with the alkyne, an organometallic intermediate has been isolated in which two arene moieties are η4-coordinated to a dipalladium(I) unit.
