A facile and one step route for the synthesis of substituted pyrrole derivatives 5a-g from reaction of ethyl arylidenecyanoacetate (1) with glycine 2 was reported. Also the pyrrolidone derivative 12 was formed upon reaction of benzylidenemalononitrile (7)
