CHIRAL SYNTHESIS OF THE ABE-RING SYSTEM OF QUINOCARCIN

An enantiomeric pair of the ABE-ring systems of quinocarcin (1), a potent antitumor antibiotic, was synthesized in > 95percent ee by employing each enantiomer of 4-O-benzyl-2,3-O-isopropylidene-threose as a chiral auxiliary and featuring novel stereoselective reduction of the 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline derivative.
