Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Ru(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) with 2-methyl-3-acetaminoquinazoline-(3H)-4-one (MAQ) and 2-phenyl-3-acetaminoquinazoline-(3H)-4-one (PAQ) have been synthesized and characterised by analytical, conductivity, magnetic moment and infrared, electronic and ESR spectral data.Analytical data show that the complexes are of the thype ML2X2 , ZnL(CH3COO)2 and M'L2Cl2, .All the complexes, except Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes, are neutral in DMF.However, Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes are found to be 1:2 electrolytes.Infrared spectral data indicate that MAQ and PAQ act as neutral bidentate ligands coordinating through carbonyl oxygen and imino nitrogen.Co(II), Ni(II) and Ru(II) complexes have been found to be octahedral, Cu(II) tetragonal and Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes square-planar, whereas Zn(II) complexes are tetrahedral.Various ligand field parameters of Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes and ESR parameters of Cu(II) complexes have been calculated.
