Addition of alkoxyde ions resulted in ipso substitution in the photolysis of an alcohol solution of 1-(p-methoxyphenyl)-2,2-diphenylvinyl bromide, whereas addition of triethylamine, pyridine, or NaHCO3 led to vinylic substitution.
