Derivatives of η5-indenyl-η5-(3)-1,2-dicarbollyliron(III) were prepared by electrolysis of a mixture of potassium 1,2-dicarbadodecahydroundecaborate and 1-methyl-, 3-methyl-, 1,3-dimethyl-, or 3-phenyl-indenes in a cell with an iron anode in a 0.1 N solution of sodium bromide in DMSO. Bisdicarbollyliron(III), isolated as tetramethylammonium salt, was formed simultaneously.
