A practical and efficient procedure for the preparation of the polysubstituted dihydropyridines was developed through a unique four-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, arylamines, and acetylenedicarboxylate in ethanol in the presence of triethylamine as a base promoter.
