The condensation of pyrrole with formylbenzocrown ethers leads to previously unknown meso-tetra(benzo-12-crown-4)- and meso-(benzo-24-crown-8)porphyrins.Condensation with a mixture of aldehydes leads to new crown-porphyrins containing hydrophilic pyridyl and lipophilic nonyl substituents at the meso positions in addition to the crown ether fragments.
