(Figure Presented) Two make a cycle: A Ramberg-Baecklund reaction was employed to form the macrocyclic carbon skeleton of the marine natural products cylindrocyclophanes A and F in an asymmetric synthesis through a head-to-tail dimerization approach (see scheme).
