The monoether and diether formation during the alkenylation of phenols by 3-chloro-2-chloromethyl-1-propene depend substantially on the nature, number, and position of the substituents in the aromatic ring.The direction of the process is determined by the structural characteristics of the substituents at the ortho positions.
