127080-03-9 Usage
General Description
The chemical compound (1-chloroethylideneamino) N,N-dimethylcarbamate, also known as Aldicarb, is an extremely toxic carbamate insecticide and nematicide. It is used primarily to control insect and nematode pests in a variety of crops, including cotton, potatoes, and citrus fruits. Aldicarb works by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, leading to the accumulation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft. This results in overstimulation of the nervous system, leading to paralysis and ultimately death in the targeted pests. Due to its high toxicity to both humans and wildlife, Aldicarb has been banned or severely restricted in many countries, and its use is tightly regulated where it is still permitted.
