Reactions of N-arylbenzoylacetamides with malonyl chloride result in the formation of piperidine-2,4,6-trione (1) and pyrano--pyridine-2,5-dione (3).Reactions with various concentrations of starting materials were investigated and intermediates such as acid chlorides were found, the methanolysis of which to methyl esters of 4-pyridon-5-oylacetic acids (2) was successful.
