Copper(II) complexes of tetradentate Schiff bases derived from aminothioetherimidazoles are described. The crystal structure of the cationic copper(II) complex of the Schiff base derived from the condensation of 4--5-methylimidazole and salicylaldehyde, 1)>, has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods.Crystals are monoclinic, with a=10.32(3), b=11.41(3), c=14.34(4) Angstroem, β=89.33(5) deg, space group P21/c; 1196 reflections with I/?(I)>3.0 gave R=0.0587.The copper is in a tetrahedrially distorted, square-planar environment; the imidazole NH is hydrogen bonded to the perchlorate anion.
