Starting from 1,2:5:6-di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-altrofuranose, 5,6-dideoxy-1,2-O-isopropylidene-5--3-O-methyl-β-D-arabino-hexofuranose was prepared in a 6 step sequence (13percent overall yield).It was converted into the title com
