A specific effect was found for the isopropyl group at the carbonyl on the composition of the molecular products of the oxidation of isobutyraldehyde, which are largely formed in the early reaction steps. The mechanism for the conversion of isobutyraldehyde was discussed.

Some kinetic mechanisms of the reaction of liquid-phase oxidation of isobutyraldehyde were examined. The effect of the parameters was investigated with an experimental planning method, and the optimum conditions for oxidation in the presence of chromium acetate as an alternative to cobalt were determined. Perisobutyric acid can be used for epoxidation of olefins into alpha -oxides, and isobutyric acid is used for preparation of methacrylic acid and as a fodder and feed preserver. Optimum conditions were determined for obtaining perisobutyric acid with a yield of up to 60% (the remainder was almost all isobutyric acid), i. e. , almost the same as in the presence of cobalt salts.
