Dipyridine cobalt chloride was used as an alternative conventional Lewis acid catalyst in the Pechmann condensation of isoxazolyl phenols with ss -ketoesters under solid supported microwave irradiation to afford new isoxazolyl coumarins. These compounds were synthesized by conventional as well as by microwave irradiation. Synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral techniques.
