PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel compound for thickening an organic liquid by addition thereof in an extremely small amount for solation or viscous liquid formation, particularly enabling solation at high temperature. SOLUTION: There is provided a thickener comprising a compound represented by the general formula (1) in the figure, where n and m each represent an integer from 2 to 18; R1 and R3 each represent a C0-6 branched or linear alkylene group; R2 represents a C3-18 branched or linear alkylene group; and one of X1 and X2 represents a sulfonyl group and the other represents a thio group.
