The present invention relates to a polymerizable adhesive composition which comprises, at least as one constituent, a cyanacrylate component and which requires a comparitively short time for curing when used on surfaces. The present invention therefore also includes a method for the production of the cyanacrylate component described above, and the cyanacrylate component as such.

A method for producing a cyanoacrylate monomer, comprising the steps of (a) reacting cyanoacetate and formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde in the presence of a base or amine base catalyst to form an α-cyanoacrylate prepolymer or oligomer mixture; (b) subjecting the α-cyanoacrylate prepolymer or oligomer mixture to a substrate having free acid, acid derivative, or free aldehyde or ketone groups to remove the catalyst and to obtain a purified α-cyanoacrylate prepolymer or oligomer; and (c) subjecting the purified α-cyanoacrylate prepolymer or oligomer to depolymerization to obtain an α-cyanoacrylate monomer.
