13537-24-1 Usage
Preparation
This crystallizes as the pale pink decahydrate Fe(ClO4)3.10H2O
from solutions of iron(III) chloride or hydrous iron(III) oxide in perchloric acid. Upon
standing over phosphorus pentoxide the decahydrate becomes the hexahydrate ; a 9-hydrate
crystallizes from solution above 42°. This salt has been important in the study of the
hydrated Fe3+ ion since perchlorate ions have only very low coordinating ability.
Purification Methods
Crystallise it twice from conc HClO4, the first time in the presence of a small amount of H2O2 to ensure that the iron is fully oxidised [Sullivan J Am Chem Soc 84 4256 1962]. Extreme care should be taken with this preparation because it is potentially EXPLOSIVE.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 13537-24-1 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,3,5,3 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 13537-24:
(7*1)+(6*3)+(5*5)+(4*3)+(3*7)+(2*2)+(1*4)=91
91 % 10 = 1
So 13537-24-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
