The subsequent Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons condensation with aldehydes is used to synthesize various unsymmetrical trans-dienes, trienes, and tetraenes. This methodology is utilized for the concise synthesis of a naturally occurring fluorescent probe for membrane properties, β-parinaric acid.
