The reaction of calcium with bistin(II) in a solvent mixture of toluene and 1,2-dimethoxyethane yields calcium-bisstannanide>*2DME, trisstannane and benzyl-trisstannane; only the first two compounds are synthesized in 1,2-dimethoxyethane.Calcium distannanide*2DME forms the radicals 3Sn. and 3SnCa. which could be characterized by their ESR-parameters with g-factors of 2.0094 and 2.0034, respectively.The trisstannyl radical reacts with the solvent molecules to the above mentioned stannanes.The benzyl-trismethyl>stannane crystallizes from toluene/n-pentane in the monoclinic space group P21/c (a = 1258.4(3); b = 1.308.8(3); c = 2358.3(5) pm; β = 100.10(3) deg; Z = 4).The tin atom is tetrahedrally coordinated with Sn-C-bonds of about 220 pm.The Sn-C-C-angle of the methylene group of the benzylligand is widened to 122 deg due to the steric demand of the three bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl substituents.
