The cleavage of strained ring in cyclopropane, phenylcyclopropane, norcarane, tetracyclo3,7.01,3>decane by electrophilic reagents such as sulfenyl chlorides and complexes of bis(dimethylamino)sulfide and bis(dimethylamino)disulfide as well as of diethylchloroamine with Lewis acids proceeds with the formation of products of 1,3-addition and products of participation of an external nucleophile.
