(Figure Presented) Ru-built cube: By combining metallasupramolecular chemistry with dynamic covalent chemistry, complex nanostructures can be formed. Large cages are synthesized by reaction of trinuclear metallamacrocycles containing pendant aldehyde groups (see picture; Ru blue, aldehyde linkers green) with triamines (red).

The kinetics of the alkylation of the lithium, sodium, and cesium salts of triphenylmethane by alkyl chlorides and butyl bromide in dimethoxyethane and tetrahydrofuran at 25 deg.C were investigated. It was established that the rate constant for the reaction of the free triphenylmethyl anion is almost three orders of magnitude greater than the rate constant for the reaction of the intimate cesium ion pairs and two to three times greater than the rate constant for the reaction of the solvent-separated lithium ion pairs. The reactivity of normal alkanes in reaction both with the free anion and with the ion pairs increases in the order C4H9Cl C3H7Cl C2H5Cl CH3Cl.
