supporting information, p. 14286 - 14291 (2013/01/15)
Mixing it up! The supramolecular alternate co-assembly of extended π-conjugated donor (D) and acceptor (A) molecules (i.e., oligo(phenylenevinylene) and perylenebisimide, respectively), to 1-D nanotubes with an unprecedented mixed stack D-A molecular structure is presented, through a non-covalent amphiphilic design strategy, which results in the formation of hydrogels with remarkable mechanical properties (see scheme). Efficient synthesis of 1,4-dialkoxy and 1,4-dialkyl substituted 2,5-divinylbenzenes via the Stille reaction
Daoud, Walid A.,Turner, Michael L.
, p. 367 - 369 (2007/10/03)
An efficient palladium catalyzed cross coupling of tributyl(vinyl)stannane with dialkoxy and dialkyl substituted 1,4-dihalobenzenes is described. This single-step coupling provides an efficient synthesis of functionalized 2,5-divinylbenzenes, which are us

New π-conjugated polymers comprised of alternating 1,10-phenanthroline/1,4-didodecyl-oxybenzene, 1,10-phenanthroline/9.9-dioctylfluorene, or pyridine/1,4-dialkoxybenzene units were prepared by palladium(0)-catalyzed coupling reaction in 84-98% yields. The

The photodegradation of soluble electroluminescent polymers is one of the greatest problems to be overcome in order to improve their technological applications. Here we will report on preliminary evaluation of the effects of commonly used solvents on the photodegradation of poly(3-methoxy-5-dodecyloxy-p-phenylene-vinylene), MD-PPV. We prepared solutions of similar concentration of MD-PPV in different solvents and recorded the ultraviolet-visible spectra before and after the exposure to a 250 mW/cm2 light intensity. Also, we prepared cast films with the same solutions (with similar thickness) in order to observe if the solvent also affects the properties of the films. The results showed that the solvent polarity seems to be not the unique factor affecting the photodegradalion, since no direct correlation could be made. Among the solvents tested, tetrahydrofuran was the best solvent for preparing films in order to minimize the photodegradation process.
